Round Lake Beach man dies after being rescued from Petite Lake

A man died on Friday after being rescued from Petite Lake in Lake Villa.

The Lake County Sheriff's Marine Unit, along with sheriff's patrol deputies, were dispatched to the 38800 block of North Cedar Crest Drive, in unincorporated Lake Villa, for a report of an unconscious subject.

According to a news release, a 49-year-old Round Lake Beach man went underwater while swimming at an area known as the "Sandbar" in Petite Lake.

Sheriff’s Marine Unit Deputies arrived at the scene first and found the man’s friends performing CPR on the man, the sheriff's office said.

The marine unit deployed an Automated External Defibrillator and tried to shock the man’s heart back to rhythm, and they assisted with rendering aid until paramedics arrived.

A preliminary investigation shows the man had been at the Sandbar for about two hours.

When his friends could not find the man, they began searching in the area where he was last seen.

The man's friends eventually found him unconscious, under the water near their boat.

They immediately removed the man from the water, administered CPR and boated him to the shore, the sheriff's office said.

Paramedics took the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased.

Sheriff’s deputies found no immediate signs of trauma or foul-play, according to the release.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s and Coroner's Office.
