WAUKEGAN -- Organizers have announced that the 2020 Northern Illinois Air Show has been canceled.
The event had been scheduled for Sept. 7 at the Waukegan Airport.
Organizers pointed to crowd restrictions under Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois reopening plan as the reason for the cancellation. The show would require the state to be in Phase 5.
“We find that condition to be unlikely by the end of summer," air show president Tom Coogan said in a news release. “Additionally, our board members take their roles seriously as guardians of the safety and welfare of fans, volunteers, and performers during the course of every show. This year, COVID-19 has brought an additional risk which the organizers cannot control or accept.”
The air show has been rescheduled for Sept. 11, 2021.
“We thank our loyal sponsors and fans, and encourage everyone to look forward to our 2021 show, which will be especially significant because it will occur on Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks," Coogan said. "We will make it a very special show in remembrance of all those we lost and to honor the heroes."
