Fox Lake announced on Thursday the cancellation of many of its summer activities, including the Celebrate Fox Lake Parade and Fireworks.
Nearby Island Lake started the discussion of potentially canceling its Fourth of July festivities at its Thursday night meeting as well.
“It is with deep regret that we have had to cancel events that mean so much to our community” Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit said in a news release. “Fox Lake is mandated to follow the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan and Executive Order.” “With Phase 5 only allowing for large special events, it is the best decision to cancel these events that have become community traditions ...”
Fox Lake will look to potentially reschedule the Celebrate Fox Lake Fireworks
Events canceled in Fox Lake include: Fox Lake Triathlon (June 14), Celebrate Fox Lake Parade and Fireworks (June 27), Fox Lake Bloody Mary Fest (July 12), Summer Art Series: Friday Night Concerts (June 5, 12, 19, 26 / July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 / Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28 / Sept. 4, 11, 25), and the Fathers’ Day Fishing Frenzy (June 20).
Community programs that will additionally be canceled include: Get Your Play On (June 11, July 9), Fishy Fridays (June 12, June 26, July 10, July 24) and GO Fox Lake Walks (June 13, July 11).
Island Lake board vote
On Thursday, the village of Island Lake Board scheduled a vote for the next meeting, June 11, concerning the potential cancellation of the village's Fourth of July Parade and Picnic, Carnival on July 17-19 and July 18 fireworks.
