GRAYSLAKE -- College of Lake County administration learned of the first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in its community late March 18. The individual’s last date on campus was March 12.
The employee is quarantined and is actively assisting the college with next steps. The college is collecting information from the employee regarding activities and contacts made during their last work week.
The administration is in consultation and coordination with the CLC Health Center and the Lake County Health Department (LCHD). The college will follow LCHD and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance in managing the situation and in working with individuals who are potentially affected.
At this time, CLC officials are aware of five individuals who had direct exposure to the employee. Those individuals were to receive communication from CLC.
President Lori Suddick stated, “CLC is committed to doing everything we can to ensure this situation is handled quickly, carefully, and compassionately.”
The college has verified that the spaces the employee came in contact within the building have been deep cleaned twice since March 16 and have been under daily touch-point cleaning since Feb. 29.
“Addressing this rapidly evolving matter is the highest priority of the College,” Suddick said.
Administration, under the guidance of the Board of Trustees and in coordination with faculty and staff, implemented an Alternative Learning Delivery and Remote Work Model, and has closed the three campuses to students and the public beginning March 16. No in-person classes have occurred since that date. This alternative model is scheduled to continue through April 12. The plan will be reassessed on an ongoing basis as emerging information from the CDC and LCHD is available.
