WAUKEGAN – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement across the state for the holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic safety campaign.
From Dec. 16 through Jan. 2, law enforcement showed zero tolerance for impaired driving, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested six intoxicated motorists.
The Sheriff’s Office also took the following enforcement actions: 47 seat-belt citations, 19 speeding citations, and eight distracted driving citations, for a total of 123 traffic citations.
The Fox Lake Police Department also participated, ramping up its usual enforcement efforts during the holiday season, adding seven additional patrols. Extra emphasis was placed on late-night hours, when statistics show most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur.
The Fox Lake Police Department took the following enforcement actions: 10 speeding citations, three uninsured motorist citations, six other traffic offense citations, and two drug offense citations.
The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
