GRAYSLAKE – Applications are being accepted for a college scholarship being awarded by the Richard G. Oehler Testamentary Trust.
Longtime Grayslake resident, Grayslake High School and Northwestern University alumnus Richard G. Oehler established the trust to provide an annual scholarship to graduates of Grayslake Community High School District 127 who desire to attend Northwestern University in Evanston.
The trust has awarded almost $800,000 in scholarships to graduates of Grayslake Community High School District 127 since its inception in 2000.The scholarship is to be awarded to a well-rounded student who has demonstrated superior academics, as well as leadership and moral integrity through involvement in school and community activities.
Students do not have to be admitted to Northwestern to apply for the scholarship. Students are eligible to apply for the scholarship if they have applied or intend to apply at Northwestern. Any student interested in attending Northwestern should inquire about this scholarship opportunity.
All seniors at Grayslake Community High School District 127 who are interested in attending Northwestern University are encouraged to apply.
To apply, a student must submit (1) a completed application form, (2) a seventh-semester transcript from Grayslake Community High School District 127, (3) two letters of reference and (4) an essay (typed, double-spaced and no longer than 250 words) addressing how the applicant has demonstrated leadership and moral integrity in his or her life. In addition, each applicant will have a brief interview with the scholarship trustee.
Application forms, transcripts and more information are available through the guidance offices at Grayslake Central High School and Grayslake North High School. All documents must be completed and submitted to the Guidance Office by March 6.
