GRAYSLAKE – From noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 7, Save-A-Pet will host its annual Holiday Open House and Gift Boutique. Handcrafted items will be for sale.
“The Save-A-Pet volunteer needle crafters have been busy creating lots of crocheted and knitted goodies for the holiday open house. Among the treasures you will find dolls, gnomes, coasters, scarves, cat paw ornaments, bookmarks, bracelets and many other unique items. We also have a few dog sweaters. Come and shop early for these one-of-a-kind items,” said Susan Rochlis, treasurer of the board of directors at Save-A-Pet.
In addition to the knitted items, jewelry, wreaths, holiday decor, cat toys, tree ornaments, glass art and more will be available.
The event includes an opportunity for photos with Santa from 1 to 3 p.m., a 50/50 raffle (drawing at 3:30 p.m.), bake sale, basket raffle and Save-A-Pet merchandise for sale.
After the Holiday Open House, there will be a pet blessing at 4:30 p.m., followed by the annual lighting of the Tree of Hope, a large pine tree in front of the Save-A-Pet Adoption Center. All well-behaved pets and their humans are welcome to attend this free event. Refreshments will be served.
Personalized holiday ornaments for the “Tree of Hope” are available to honor a special person or beloved animal. The ornaments will be placed on the Tree of Hope throughout the holiday season and are on sale now through Dec. 31.
The colorful ball ornament is $10 and the clear ball ornament with room for a picture is $20. There is an opportunity to include a message up to 35 characters on each ornament. The clear ball ornaments accommodate a 4-by-4-inch photo (you provide the photo).
To purchase an ornament, visit www.saveapetil.org and click on 2019 Tree of Hope.
Proceeds from the sale of ornaments go toward the cost of caring for animals rescued by Save-A-Pet.
