BEACH PARK – A Waukegan man was hospitalized July 20 after he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle along Sheridan Road, police said.
About 1:20 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue, Beach Park, for a traffic crash with injuries involving a car and pedestrian, according to a news release.
Deputies found the victim, a 63-year-old Waukegan man, lying on the roadway with serious injuries. He was taken via ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for treatment.
Preliminary investigation shows that the man was riding a bicycle north on Sheridan Road. He was struck by a northbound vehicle, which then fled from the scene. After deputies were on the scene for about an hour, an individual called from the 2600 block of Gilboa Avenue, Zion, advising that their 20-year-old daughter had struck a pedestrian on Sheridan Road, police said.
Crash investigators responded to the driver’s home and located both the driver and the vehicle. The driver cooperated with crash investigators and the vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet passenger car, has been impounded while the investigation continues.
The bicyclist remains at Vista East Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time pending the continuation of the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
