The Lake County Sheriff's Office has arrested a convicted sex offender on new assault charges, according to a news release.
Barry A. Deacon, 34, of the 35600 block of North Greenleaf Avenue, Ingleside, has been charged with failure of a sex offender to report a change of address, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, police said.
Police believe Deacon fled his Ingleside home in the 35600 block of North Greenleaf Avenue after officers’ investigation into sexual assault claims against him, according to the news release.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received allegations in November that Deacon made sexual advances toward a girl who is related to him, according to the release.
The girl was visiting relatives on Nov. 10 in the 35600 block of North Greenleaf Avenue when Deacon allegedly sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police issued a statement in January seeking information about Deacon's whereabouts.
On March 2, a tip led police to respond to the North Greenleaf Avenue home where they found Deacon and arrested him without incident, police said.
Deacon previously was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim younger than 13 years old in a 2003 Lake County case, public records show. He was sentenced to three years in prison, 250 hours of public service and intensive probation.
Deacon remains held in the Lake County Jail on $750,000 bail. He is next due in court 9 a.m. March 6 in Courtroom T110.
