Round Lake hosted its annual ice fishing clinic on Jan. 28 at the Aquatics Center and Nature Museum Building. The free event taught children between the ages of 5 and 16 and their families the proper way to ice fish. Topics of the event covered safety while on the ice, equipment needed to properly fish and techniques to get the best catch. Participants threw lines through holes cut into a raised blue tarp and caught fish flashcards with species information on one side and a picture of the fish on the other.
The Warren Township Girls Softball fast pitch in-house league walk-in registration and mandatory uniform fittings is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Warren Township High School’s Almond campus.
Carmel boys soccer coach retires to spend more time with family

GAGES LAKE – Chicago Bears players Kellen Davis, Anthony Adams, Stephen Paea and Amobi Okoye – along with their wives and families – helped students at the Special Education District of Lake County's Gages Lake School celebrate the holidays at the annual "Bears Wives' Holiday Party."
Sarahbeth Jones, a junior women’s cross country and track and field runner at Augustana College in Rock Island, recently won the Jack Swartz Award for fall sports in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Jones, from Wadsworth and an alumna of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, represents Augustana women’s sports in accepting the award.
The eighth-grade girls Gold team from St. Gilbert Catholic School in Grayslake won the Deerpath Tournament championship in Lake Forest on Dec. 2. They played Gurnee Viking Middle School, St. Mary’s Lake Forest and Deerpath Middle School during the tournament. Coached by John Maloney and Christine Melillo, the team is comprised of Angie Melillo, Kileen Albright, Allie Daul, Maggie Tutaj, Hannah Felipez, Julianna Rattin, Annie Rauch, Marissa Krebs, Meghan McCue, Kelly Moroney and Dani Deloizer.
GURNEE – The Warren Township Girls Softball Fastpitch In-house League registration is open. There are openings for all girls in grades 1 through 10. There are no tryouts required and a free players clinic is offered for all levels.
Antioch defeated Grant in girls basketball 37-34 at Grant Community High School in Fox Lake on Dec. 9.
Jessica Price, a Libertyville native and junior forward for the Florida State University women’s soccer team, recently made a run to the final four of the Women’s College Cup, held Dec. 2 in Kennesaw, Ga.
MUNDELEIN – Carmel High School’s Michael Panico was recently named to the class of 2013 Tom Lemming/NCSA All Area Team for high school football. Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly was on hand to honor Panico and his fellow all-area athletes.
GURNEE – The Warren Wave has announced the dates for its eighth annual Warren Wave Wipeout Tournament: Friday, July 20, through Sunday, July 22. 
ANTIOCH – Antioch Community High School will induct three new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Antioch Community High School senior Brianna Grant (left) signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Texas Tech University next fall. Grant, pictured with ACHS head girls volleyball coach Glen Heitman, was a three-year varsity athlete for the Sequoits in volleyball. During her time on the varsity team, she was named to several All-Conference and All-Area teams.
GRAYSLAKE – The College of Lake County Foundation’s 23rd Keith Ryan Scholarship Fund and Sports Banquet on Nov. 17 recognized 13 new inductees into the Lake County High Schools Sports Hall of Fame, three new inductees into the Waukegan Sports Hall of Fame and three CLC scholarship recipients.
WAUCONDA – The Wauconda-area U15 boys travel soccer club will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to help pay for its upcoming soccer season.
LINDENHURST – Learn how to safely operate a snowmobile at a snowmobile safety class hosted by the Lake County Forest Preserve District.
LONG GROVE – The village of Long Grove will host its fourth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 24.
GURNEE – A tree was planted Nov. 4 between fields 8 and 10 of the Warren Township Center fields in Gurnee in honor of Taylor Stinchcomb, a Warren Wave player who died in a car crash earlier this year.
LAKE VILLA – The Lakes Eagles girls varsity basketball team lost to Fremd on Nov. 19 during the Lake Zurich Thanksgiving Turkey Thriller Tournament at Lakes Community High School.
The 2011 Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State teams have been chosen, and they include several Lake County athletes.
MUNDELEIN – Countryside Golf Club will host one last chance for golfers to get out on the greens by staying open this weekend.
The annual Witches and Fast Pitches tournament in Salem, Wis., saw unusually cold weather the last weekend of October. Battling freezing temperatures, the fifth-seeded fall ball Warren Wave 12U Blue team made some magic of their own, fighting off a tough Bordertown Bandits Black team to win 5-4 in the championship game Oct. 30. It was their fourth win in a row in the tournament. The Wave’s defense kept them in the lead, exemplified in the sixth inning by centerfielder Kayla Nommensen who, on a dead run, made a catch to take away an extra base hit. In the seventh, the Bandit’s cleanup hitter tried to tie the game by stretching a triple but was thrown out at the plate with catcher Rachel Becker applying the tag for the final out of the game.
LAKE VILLA – Lakes running back Direll Clark continued to turn heads in Saturday's Class 6A football state quarterfinal.
LAKE VILLA – The Batavia Bulldogs defeated the Lakes Eagles 42-0 in the Class 6A quarterfinals Nov. 12.
WAUKEGAN – The Field House Sports and Fitness Center at the Waukegan Park District will promote group fitness classes and giving back to the community all at once.
GRAYSLAKE – Though Westlake Christian Academy volleyball players did not finish the season with a winning record, the girls showed dedication and perseverance during a tough year, school officials said.
LAKE VILLA – The Lakes football squad will play host once again this postseason as they welcome the Batavia Bulldogs into their nest for a third-round Class 5A playoff game Saturday, Nov. 12.
LIBERTYVILLE – The Libertyville Sports Complex will offer a special thank you to veterans by giving them special privileges from Friday, Nov. 11, through Sunday, Nov. 13.
FOX LAKE – The  Lakes varsity football team traveled to Grant Community High School to take on the Bulldogs in a Class 6A second-round state playoff game between Nov. 4.
The IHSA cross country state finals took place Nov. 5 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
FOX LAKE – This massive muskie was caught Oct. 30 on the Fox Chain by Ryan Stochl of Fox Lake with a live bait sucker.
