Pedestrian seriously injured when struck by car

GAGES LAKE – A 45-year-old man was seriously injured when police say he intentionally stepped in front of car.

About 6:20 a.m. Oct. 2, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to West Gages Lake Road and Almond Road, Gages Lake, for a traffic crash involving a car and pedestrian with injuries. Deputies found the pedestrian, a 45-year-old man without a permanent address, with serious injuries, police said.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2007 Dodge pickup truck, driven by a 64-year-old man of unincorporated Grayslake, was traveling west on Gages Lake Road, approaching Almond Road. As the driver traveled west, the pedestrian quickly ran from the north side of the roadway and stopped directly in the path of the Dodge. It appears the pedestrian intentionally ran in front of the vehicle, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries and for a mental health evaluation. The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
