The Village Board has voted to fire Island Lake Police Chief Anthony Sciarrone amid an investigation led by the mayor's office, interim Chief Dan Palmer confirmed Friday.
The board voted, 4-2, Thursday in favor of firing Sciarrone upon the mayor's recommendation, Palmer said. Officials also voted, 4-2, to fire officer Charles Mader based on Palmer's recommendation.
Palmer declined to comment on details of the mayor's investigation. The village clerk could not be reached for information Friday afternoon.
Shortly after his appointment, Palmer said tasks atop his to-do list include interviewing two additional officers in connection with the investigation. One of those officers is Mader, who Palmer said became "insubordinate with a sergeant" and refused to meet with Palmer.
"He walked out on the sergeant and said he was never going to meet with me, and in fact didn’t," Palmer said.
Mader also stopped attending meetings that he was expected to attend, Palmer said.
In the meantime, the interim chief is looking to hire four new full-time police officers.
