Wauconda police are investigating after a man in his 40s was found dead Monday in a field off Rand Road.
Police responded about 8:50 a.m. Monday to the 2000 block of North Rand Road after a report of an unoccupied suspicious vehicle, according to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department. There reportedly was a large amount of blood inside the vehicle.
Officers used K-9 units and drones to search a large cornfield near where the vehicle was found. The man's body was found several hundred yards into the field, police said.
On Monday morning, the Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Paul Carr. Buffalo Grove police said Carr was from the village.
"The preliminary autopsy results indicated he died from injuries caused by sharp force trauma," Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said in a news release. "Toxicology is pending. The investigation into his death is ongoing by our office and the Wauconda Police Department."
Cooper said his office has been in contact with Carr's family and offers its deepest condolences.
The Wauconda Police Investigations Division is working with multiple agencies on the case.
Buffalo Grove police said they are "currently investigating an allegation against Mr. Carr which reportedly occurred at his place of work."
