Florida fugitive is arrested in Wauconda Township

WAUCONDA TOWNSHIP – Law enforcement agencies teamed up June 28 to arrest a man in Wauconda Township in connection with manslaughter and drug charges in Florida.

Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Team and U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Bernard Mullen, 51, of the 5300 block of Ruby Lane, Sarasota, Fla., according to a news release.

Mullen was wanted on a nationwide arrest warrant in connection with manslaughter and selling/delivery of fentanyl. The warrant was issued in Sarasota County, Fla., after a death investigation conducted by the Sarasota Count Sheriff’s Office in July 2017. The arrest warrant was issued June 22.

U.S. Marshals – Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force (Tampa office) developed information suggesting Mullen was in the Wauconda area at the residence of one of his family members. Florida Marshals officials contacted the Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Team on June 28. The same day, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Team and members of the Marshals Service conducted surveillance at a residence in the 26100 block of North Hill Avenue in Wauconda Township.

Mullen was seen sitting on the front steps of the residence and he was arrested without incident. He was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he remains held without bail pending extradition hearings.
