GURNEE – Built in the 1990s, Westgate and University Park are two of three parks that will receive new playgrounds this year. Gurnee Park District has a capital replacement schedule to ensure playgrounds stay safe and fun.
“Playgrounds equipment typically lasts 20 years before needing upgrades or total replacement,” safety supervisor Kraig Owens said in a news release.
Both locations will host community meetings before construction takes place in early fall. Park District staff will present plans, answer questions about the project and collect resident feedback at the meetings.
The Westgate Park community meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 10 at the park at Lawson Boulevard and Hancock Street.
The University Park community meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 12 at the park at University Avenue and Estes Street.
