LAKE VILLA – An Antioch 16-year-old boy was critically injured when his SUV struck a tree and gas line near Lake Villa, police said.

About 4:55 p.m. April 3, Lake County Sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 45 north of Grand Avenue near Lake Villa, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 2000 Red Ford Expedition on the east side of the road with significant damage. The vehicle had struck a gas line, which was leaking.

Deputies were able to remove the driver and sole occupant, a 16-year-old Antioch boy, from the vehicle and away from the scene.

The driver was taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville with critical injuries. The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
