U.S. Marines corporal becomes October Hometown Hero

ROUND LAKE –áThe Round Lake Area Exchange Club and sponsor Consumer Credit Union have selected U.S. Marines Cpl. Patrick Metz of Elgin as the October 2017 Hometown Hero.

A fellow Marine mother, Marlene Vogt of Huntley, registered him for the honor.

Metz is stationed in North Carolina. Metz’s honors include Joint Service Medal, Global Wars on Terrorism Expeditionary, Meritorious Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Ribbons, Sea Service, and Global War on Terrorism.

Metz’s “Hanging with the Heroes” care package will include some of his favorite snacks, a personalized T-shirt, and letters from Round Lake Area Schools students. The Round Lake Area Exchange Club also recognized Metz with a plaque on Nov. 8.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the RLAS-116 Administrative Service Center, 884 W Nippersink Road, Round Lake.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club needs help in getting local heroes signed up. Any and all military personnel serving overseas or in the U.S. from any of the Round Lake areas, Hainesville, Fox Lake, Ingleside or surrounding areas, qualify for the program.

Register your loved ones in less than five minutes by going to www.rlaexchange.org/hero. For information, visit the website or contact the program chairman, Sherry Ridge, at 847-740-2379.
