TSC selects Junior Sailor of the Quarter
Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes, honored its 2012 Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) for the third quarter during an award ceremony Oct. 18.
Navy Military Training Instructor (NMTI) EN2(SW) Vanessa D. Johnson was selected.
When asked about her selection Johnson replied, “I am very happy that I received this honor because it’s nice to see that my hard work has been noticed. This only makes me want to work harder to show that I know I can achieve whatever I want as long as I put my best foot forward.”
A native of Chicago, Johnson joined the Navy in 2004 to travel and see the world. Prior to coming to TSC in April, she served aboard the USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81).
“EN2 Johnson has only been onboard a short period of time and has made a huge impact in the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ),” said ENC(EXW/SW) Edward Young, leading chief petty officer, USS Preble BEQ 635. “She has proven herself here and at previous commands as a “go to person” to get the job done. Being from the Chicago area made it easier for her to come back and help new accession sailors transition from civilian to sailor, helping to train new sailors to go out to the fleet ready to hit the deck plates running.”
As an NMTI, Johnson assists with the day-to-day issues that occur with the students at TSC in her BEQ. She mentors 80-90 students daily in watch standing and military bearing and conducts Navy training when working at night.
