University Center keeps students near home

GRAYSLAKE – Salvador Rodriguez was the first to graduate from high school in his family. In May 2013, he will accomplish another first within his family – earning a college degree.
Rogriguez, 26, of Waukegan, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northeastern Illinois University Chicago next year – but  he never has to go more than 10 miles from home to attend class.

Rogriguez is one of more than nearly 900 students who take classes through the University Center in Grayslake. The University Center acts as a satellite classroom for 19 participating universities, including Northeastern, DePaul University and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, among others.

The students can go to University Center to take classes, thus saving money on housing, commuting and other fees. They do, however, have to pay the full tuition of whichever school they are attending.
