Little Lake County: Fun for the Young
Welcome to Little Lake County (www.littlelakeconty.com), a new monthly column here where I share events and venues that are perfect for families with little people.
I started Little Lake County in 2010 as much for my own needs as to share it with the broader community. A recent transplant from the city now living in Grayslake, I wanted to find stuff to do with my three children, ages 1 to 7. In my own backyard instead of dragging the kids into the city. I found that Lake County is filled with so much art, culture and family-friendly activity that I wanted to share it. If there is something in particular you are looking for or want me to cover please feel free to email me at little lakecounty@gmail.com
Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end to summer. While barbecues are tradition there is a lot more going on in Lake County that you and your kids can enjoy beyond the backyard grill.
Hike Lake County: The Lake County Forest Preserve District is again issuing a challenge to get out and hike the trails of Lake County. They have designated 13 trails, most are 2 miles or less, and if you hike seven of them you earn a shield from the program. This is a great way to introduce the kids to the vast natural treasure that is the Lake County Forest Preserve District. If you have older kids they have added a scavenger hunt app this year! See www.lcfpd.org/HLC for details on the program as well as trail lists and maps.
