Forest preserves employee all about history

Diana Dretske said her role as collections coordinator  for Lake County Forest Preserves’ Lake County Discovery Museum allows her to blend her interest in local history – she grew up in Waukegan – and nature.

The Discovery Museum and Lake County History Archives are tucked away in Lakewood, the county’s largest forest preserve, in Wauconda. The preserve is also home to the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, the world’s largest public collection of postcards and related materials.

Those interested in history have traveled from all over the world to visit the museum to search through its archives to learn more about their family’s past or to learn more about what a certain town was like when it was settled.
