Local painter’s style: From bold to soft
LINDENHURST –Susan Anne Russell’s edgy side will be on display at an art show this weekend in Chicago, but if you go, don’t get the idea that’s all this Lindenhurst resident paints. She’s equally adept at creating acrylics of cats looking crazily at the moon in bold black and red colors as well as a pastel, impressionistic-type painting. Her cat paintings will be shown at a cat fest at Prop Theater in Chicago on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Her less edgy works will be on display Jan. 18 to Feb. 2 at the David Adler Cultural Center in Libertyville.
CATZILLA is an avante-garde cat fest at Prop Theatre, 3502 N. Elston, Chicago where Russell’s paintings of a smokin’ cat and a catwoman invading a library will be on display while actors dressed in cat costumes will dance and tell stories. The show highlights Chicago area artists that feature felines in their works, which include photography, collage, acyrlics, water color, oil, print and textile.
“This cat show is more fun. It’s something different. It’s more alternative,” said Russell, who earned a degree in fine arts from the Art Institute of Chicago.
