Fort2Base run slated for Sept. 23
Through a partnership between the MWR Department and Fort2Base, LLC, thousands of athletes will get a rare opportunity to run on the soil at Naval Station Great Lakes on Sunday, Sept. 23 as part of the second annual Fort2Base run.
The 10-nautical-mile race begins at historic Fort Sheridan in Highland Park and runs along the beautiful Green Bay Trail to finish inside NSGL. Athletes will be running in the footsteps of more than 100 years of military history.
“We had such a wonderful welcome last year for the inaugural running of Fort2Base, and we are really looking forward to making the event even bigger and better for everyone,” said Beth Salinger, race director of Fort2Base.
Participants will have a choice of two race distances, a 10-nautical-mile (11.5 miles) distance or three nautical miles (3.45 miles), which runs within the private expanses of NSGL.
Both courses offer participants a unique glimpse into beautiful scenic vistas of the North Shore, as well as the naval station itself.
A family-friendly post-race party will include an obstacle course, fun inflatables, music, a kid’s fun run and refreshments. “We have a variety of offerings for all ages, even if you are here to cheer your loved one on,” said Salinger.
