Community pool on target to open next year

ANTIOCH - This time next year, Antioch residents will be splashing around in a new $2.2 million community pool, complete with a 20-foot-high water slide, diving well and renovated bathhouse.

That's because the city is embarking on its largest capital improvement project this year by converting the public outdoor pool, built in 1954, into a modern zero-depth entry pool that's more in line with what patrons expect these days, according to village officials.

"We have run out of time. It was literally on its last leg," Antioch Parks Director  Shawn Roby said of the old pool  "If we didn't do this, we wouldn't have a community pool at all. It's that bad."
