Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL) sailors enjoyed a special breakfast and dinner prepared by four visiting chefs during the Great American Backyard Barbecue at Galley 535 on July 11.
    Terri Lynch, wife of Capt. Randy Lynch, commanding officer, NSGL, was on hand  at 4 a.m. to provide assistance. “She was the first one at work this morning,” said Troy Konz, food service director. “She volunteered and we’re keeping her busy.”
    Preparation began at 5 a.m. said Sarah Simington from the Blue Moon Cafe in Baltimore, Md. who is at Great Lakes for the second year. “We arrived before that, working on each line together.”
    Simington’s specialties included Cap’n Crunch-encrusted french toast with fresh berries and home-made cinnamon, chocolate chip and caramel buns.
    Her interest in cooking all started with her mom, she explained. “It’s in my blood. It’s a combination of artistic ability, imagination, and being momma-taught.
    “I’m a foodie,” noted Simington, who opened her restaurant 16 years ago. “All day I think about what I can cook. There’s a 400-pound woman inside of me and sometimes she’s just got to get out.
