Forest preserve fire due to heat, drought

As record temperatures continued to climb this week, a wildfire burned through acres of dried cattails in the southwest corner of Lake County, prompting forest preserve officials this week to warn residents about unintentionally sparking fires.

On Monday, 28 acres of cattails in the roughly 800-acre Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve by Barrington caught fire, LCFP officials said. The area that burned is near railroad tracks that might have helped ignite the fire, officials said.
